Jeannette Vaught Stabler, Mother of Eight (1919-2009)



Jeannette Vaught Stabler, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away on December 4, 2009, at the age of 90. She formerly resided in Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD and Rockville, Brookeville and Brighton in Montgomery County.

Born Cecelia Jeannette Vaught on May 20,1919 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late William Jordan and Irene Cullison Vaught. She was the wife of the late Sydney Snowden Stabler, Jr.

Mrs. Stabler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Maryland where she worked as secretary to the head of the Speech Department. She also was a secretary for the Montgomery County Government Department of Personnel, the Montgomery County Police Department and the Rockville Chamber of Commerce. She served as an administrative assistant for the Montgomery County Social Services Department in Rockville and Montgomery College in Rockville.

Mrs. Stabler was a volunteer docent at Glenview Mansion at the Rockville Civic Center and a volunteer at the Sandy Spring Museum. She was a member of the Rockville Women's Club, Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Montgomery County, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and PEO. She joined PEO in 1945 and served as president of Chapter D.  Mrs. Stabler joined the Kiwanis Club of Rossmoor, Silver Spring, Maryland in 1996 and served three terms as Club President. She was honored as a Distinguished Club President and Kiwanian of the Year.

She served as a Montgomery County election judge from 1964 to 2008.

She was the Organist and Choir Director at St. Bartholomew's Church in Laytonsville, MD, and a choir member at the Interfaith Chapel in Leisure World.

Survivors include eight children: William Snowden Stabler of Silver Spring, MD; Peggy (and her husband Francis) Johnson of Boyds, MD; Mark (and his wife Patty) Stabler of Nuevo, CA; Irene (and her husband Thomas) Bennetts of Germantown, MD; Isabel (and her husband Robert) Goodier of Lutherville, MD; Edward (and his wife Janis) Stabler of Vienna, VA, Andrew Graham (and his wife Jenny) Stabler of Yorba Linda, CA; Paul David (and his wife Mary) Stabler of Gaithersburg, MD; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.


There will be a memorial service in early 2010.

Jeannette Vaught Stabler, 90, of Columbia, formerly of Silver Spring, Rockville, Brookeville and Brighton, died December 4, 2009.
Born May 20, 1919, in Chicago, she was a daughter of the late William J. and Irene Cullison Vaught.
She was the wife of the late Sydney S. Stabler Jr., who died in 1971. They were married 30 years.
Mrs. Stabler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the University of Maryland. She worked as secretary to the Head of the Speech Department at the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a secretary for the Montgomery County Government Department of Personnel. She also worked as a secretary for the Montgomery County Police Department and was an administrative assistant for the Montgomery County Social Services Department, a secretary for the Rockville Chamber of Commerce and an administrative assistant at Montgomery College in Rockville.
Mrs. Stabler was a Rockville Civic Center docent and a member of the Rockville Women's Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Montgomery County. She was a member of PEO (joined in 1945) and president of Chapter D. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Rossmoor from 1996 to 2007 and was president for three terms, 1999 to 2000 and 2005 to 2007. She earned the title of Distinguished President and was honored as Kiwanian of the Year. Mrs. Stabler joined the Kiwanis Club of Wheaton-Silver Spring in October 2007.
She served as an election judge for the Montgomery County Board of Elections from 1964 to 2008. She was the Organist and Choir Director at St. Bartholomew's Church in Laytonsville, as well as a choir member at the Interfaith Chapel at Leisure World.
Survivors include eight children, William Snowden Stabler of Silver Spring, Margaret S. "Peggy" (Francis) Johnson of Boyds, Mark (Patty) Stabler of Nuevo, Calif., Irene S. (Thomas) Bennetts of Germantown, Isabel S. (Robert) Goodier of Lutherville, Edward (Janis) Stabler of Vienna, Va., Andrew Graham (Jenny) Stabler of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Paul David (Mary) Stabler of Gaithersburg; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Valerie V. Pierce of Michigan, and two brothers, William J. Vaught of Florida and Daniel Vaught of University Park.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
