Jeannette Vaught Stabler, Mother of Eight (1919-2009)



Jeannette Vaught Stabler, of Columbia, Maryland, passed away on December 4, 2009, at the age of 90. She formerly resided in Leisure World in Silver Spring, MD and Rockville, Brookeville and Brighton in Montgomery County.

Born Cecelia Jeannette Vaught on May 20,1919 in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late William Jordan and Irene Cullison Vaught. She was the wife of the late Sydney Snowden Stabler, Jr.

Mrs. Stabler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Maryland where she worked as secretary to the head of the Speech Department. She also was a secretary for the Montgomery County Government Department of Personnel, the Montgomery County Police Department and the Rockville Chamber of Commerce. She served as an administrative assistant for the Montgomery County Social Services Department in Rockville and Montgomery College in Rockville.

Mrs. Stabler was a volunteer docent at Glenview Mansion at the Rockville Civic Center and a volunteer at the Sandy Spring Museum. She was a member of the Rockville Women's Club, Business and Professional Women (BPW) of Montgomery County, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and PEO. She joined PEO in 1945 and served as president of Chapter D.  Mrs. Stabler joined the Kiwanis Club of Rossmoor, Silver Spring, Maryland in 1996 and served three terms as Club President. She was honored as a Distinguished Club President and Kiwanian of the Year.

She served as a Montgomery County election judge from 1964 to 2008.

She was the Organist and Choir Director at St. Bartholomew's Church in Laytonsville, MD, and a choir member at the Interfaith Chapel in Leisure World.

Survivors include eight children: William Snowden Stabler of Silver Spring, MD; Peggy (and her husband Francis) Johnson of Boyds, MD; Mark (and his wife Patty) Stabler of Nuevo, CA; Irene (and her husband Thomas) Bennetts of Germantown, MD; Isabel (and her husband Robert) Goodier of Lutherville, MD; Edward (and his wife Janis) Stabler of Vienna, VA, Andrew Graham (and his wife Jenny) Stabler of Yorba Linda, CA; Paul David (and his wife Mary) Stabler of Gaithersburg, MD; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.


There will be a memorial service in early 2010.
